There’s no denying that travelling is much more accessible with the growing number of budget airlines. Nonetheless, packing may seem like a chore to many of us. It is also common that we forget some items that come in handy in times of need or emergency. Therefore, this list is here to help you.
- Distinguishable and durable luggage tags or other suitable identifiers
Luggage tags can help a traveller identify their bags on a conveyor belt. It would be more helpful if the luggage tag is easily distinguishable from the rest. Otherwise, why bother putting a luggage tag? Another point to consider is that the luggage tag should not be easily torn. Another alternative is to use other identifiers. If you want, you can make your very own identifier. However, do be cautious about using paper-based materials as tags. This is because in the event of a baggage check by relevant authorities, they may get ripped off by accident. Also take note of baggage handlers who would usually just chuck your luggage. Nevertheless, if you do use printed materials for your luggage tags or identifiers, be sure to get them laminated so that they will remain long-lasting.
- Mobile ”Doctor” in your luggage
Sounds like a given, right? Yes? No? Once, when I was in the US for a two-week trip, I experienced a tummy ache. We had all the medications in the world, except for the well-known Tiger Balm. So, God knows how but we managed to find a Tiger Balm ala Zam-Buk from a pharmacy. My mum went on with her ‘How come they don’t sell it in a bottle? Haha.. I think it was the weather change and the long flight that caused me the stomach ache. I know, I know… sometimes it’s just very troublesome to bring all these, especially with the stringent limits the authorities impose on liquids and whatever else. Well, at least I learnt that there are different types of Tiger Balms 🙂 Of course, best to be on the safe side and pack whatever you need, just in case you suffer from minor aches and pains. Be warned though that if your condition does not get better in a few days, it’s time to seek PROFESSIONAL medical help.
- Transparent sealable storage bags
A transparent sealable storage bag comes in handy for those who have:
a) Puffy and bulky clothing like winter jackets
b) The tendency to shop A LOT!
c) Fragile itemsThis is so you can separate them from your other clothing to make it easier to locate, reduce luggage weight and lessen rattling in the luggage. It would be nice to purchase a vacuum bag and a separate handheld pump. However, if you opt to buy just the vacuum bag, you may politely ask the hotel staff for the use of their vacuum to let you pump air into the bag 🙂
- Money pouches or concealable travel wallets
Safety should always be one’s top priority. One can never say for sure that they will NOT fall victim to a pickpocket or a thief. Therefore, it’s best to keep money pouches that store your money close to you. Just as a precaution, do not carry too much in your pouch. This is in case something nasty happens. Alternatively, there are those travel wallets with anti-theft features. They are also designed to keep your travel documents in place. However, do note that criminals are smarter by the day! So, it’s always good to be cautious.
- Emergency contact numbers
These numbers should be stored in places convenient to the traveller. In the event that he or she misplaces his or her mobile phone, there would be no unnecessary panic.
It’s natural for many of us to want to travel with peace of mind. As much as possible, we don’t want anything tragic or bad to occur. Cases like lost luggage, stolen documents or having to stay in because you feel nauseous suddenly are all many of us don’t want to experience. Till then, happy travelling!
